Manufactured PCB's

I have placed an order for the Mosfet PCB's this morning. It  had to be sent to an offshore facility because of the 3oz copper and will take about three weeks. I tried to order "OR" boards (some guys said that they will take 1 "or" 2 ) but they didn't have any :)) so I didn't get too many of the mosfet boards. I mentioned in a previous post that I got a price for a 3 layer board that would have solved the weak spot issue on the PCB but it was very expensive. This is a 2 layer board and It has 94 via's that connects the bottom and the top layer. The copper of the bottom and top layer together will be 0.0084" thick. I worked the price out to $80/board + shipping and will sell it on a first come first serve basis.

  1. Put me down for two. Fritz I'd like to pay up front that way you know you wont get stuck with the boards. Maybe others will follow suit and prepay as well...? ShawnC

  5. Guys, I'll rather wait until I have the boards. It is too much work to keep track of who paid.

  6. Mosfet board completed. Not for the faint of heart. I mouned the heatsinks to the board with nylon washers and screws (using the alredy tapped holes). I need help with control board question. I get 5 VDC at appropriate check points but the expected 24 VDC reads 22.85 VDC at P3. AC from transformer at P1 reads 25.5 VAC and at D1 33.75 VDC. Any ideas why DC at D1 and P3 is low?

  7. Brian, It all depends on your transformer, some transformers will give you a higher AC voltage on your secondary side so that when you pull the full load amps that the transformer can supply it will drop to 24v.If you work your dc voltage out you can get anything from 33- 36VDC. If you take your 25.5AC - 1.4v(volt drop over your diodes) = 24.1 X 1.4 = 33.75VDC.
You should get about 23.6VDC between point 13 and any GND point on P3. Check if R1 and R6 are the correct values and also check if they are soldered without making a dry joint.

  8. I went over R1 and R6 and everything looked OK. Still 23 volts at 13 0n P3.
I hooked up IC and LCD with pots and capacitors and get no reading on the LCD (it does light up). I am ready to pay Shawn to trouble shoot my board!

  9. Brian, can you take some photo's of your board and send it to me?

  10. Fritz:
Let me know when the mosfet boards are ready. I want one as well.

  11. What kind of DVOM meter are you using Brian? Do you have another you can use to test against? Might be worth double checking. El cheapo meters have a tendancy to be in accurate for exacting measurement.

  12. Can some of you tell me what gauge welding cable you used as well as the ID of the ring terminals to connect to the mosfet board? What size diameter hole did you drill in the mosfet board to connect the cables? The construction manual file says to connect 1 gauge welding wire to the mosfet board, but the pictures I have seen on here of Shawns welder so a much smaller gauge wire.

  14. I just ordered all of my parts! Make sure you offer $5 or less for each heatsink on Ebay from the Mosfet BOM. He accepted my $5 per unit offer instantly, versus the $7.50/unit asking price. -Mike

  15. Made my orders today. :) Fritz - thanks for the work you have put in on this project. Hopefully one day I will have the knowhow to do what you have done here. Great work. Curtis
