  1. Said I would post my progress photos of the weld head that I'm working on. Not so much to present just yet, but I'm going to try some initial testing with a small salvaged piston:http://www.ogilumen.com/images/custom/piston.jpg
And I've got a very solid steel/aluminum base put together from scrap pieces. http://www.ogilumen.com/images/custom/weldhead.jpg
    More to follow...

  5. Not to be impertinent, but with the price of the comparable Suncoast units and the number of people going through the trouble of building their own, I'm surprised that someone isn't having a similar welder built in China and that they're not for sale at Harbor Freight. What are the prospects for something like that happening? I've been wanting to repair some nicad battery packs and don't have the resources to purchase or resources and skills to to build my own welder. BTW, I'm really impressed with what you have done.

  8. Would it be possible with this 600Ws CD welder to weld brass M3 screw to 2mm brass sheet. I need to weld brass pin post to brass pin badge or M3 brass screw to brass pin badge.

  9. I never tried to weld brass but I think the properties will be very similar to copper. I think a Pulse Arc Welder is a better choice to weld brass.

    1. Hi Fritz,
I was thinking that maybe your CD welder could do something like on this links http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBMzWXkR8nI or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7CQ4vuyKI8&feature=plcp

  10. Instead of using one 3Farad capacitor, what about conecting i parallel large number of smaller electrolitic capacitors. What problems could occur. I am asking this because I read on one forum a post from a guy who used to build CDW machine in this way and it worked ok.

    1. Yes, a bunch of smaller capacitors in parallel totaling 3F will also work. My welder has three 1Farad capacitors in parallel.

  12. Included in the document package are files that you can send to a manufacturer or you can use it to make the PCB's yourself. I will get more boards in the new year.

  13. interesting..... could this be done with a diy etching tank then? id be interested if seeing if you can get more boards to be honest, im not sure where in the UK i would go for such workmanship. Excellent product :) Have you got a rough idea when in the new year you would have the new boards?
