TOO MUCH TIME

  2. I am not going anywhere. I will still follow your blog as long as it is up. And depending on what you will offer with the control board, I may purchase one or two. I just think you are asking too much for your mosfet board files. You would be better off keeping the files, having some boards made and selling them outright for that price. And really at this point, the control board is not even available. If I purchased the mosfet gerbers when they were released I would be freaking out right now because this blog may be dead soon, I have no control board or control board files and a mosfet board I cant put to use unless I design my own controller. So, I am not busting on ya, I think you have done some really kick ass work but your latest post may scare people away rather than generate income. Get the firmware, control board and mosfet board all available and I bet you will get a lot more love. I for one will probably one of them.

Much love dog! I wish I had time to work on developing projects like this.

  4. I just had someone that was quoted $6800 for the same welder at Sunstone engineering.

  5. did you guys see Shawn's commend???
    Shawn said...

Digikey has them for $112+ship. I think I can do a custom box with lcd, pot holes and anything elese that is needed for about that much. If anyone is interested. I should have my box completely assembled next week. Still waiting on my new cap :-( I'm willing to do small custom changes to the box cut files free of charge. Shawn

  6. Matt, you need not worry. Fritz has come through big time! This welder is awesome. I've done about 100 welds on 0.007 stainless with zero problems since the mosfet board revisions that Fritz recommended. You guys are going to love it! If the new audio cap I have coming doesnt measure up I'm going to go with computer grade caps. Even with computer caps it will still put my welder well under $600. And it'll be worth every penny and then some!!! ($6800 for a Sunstone,,,WOW!) Sounds like you guys better sh!t or get off the pot, before you miss a great opportunity....I'm ordering another board and processor:)

  7. Contribute to the cause!!! It is obvious that A LOT of time and money has gone into the development of this welder. It is NOT unreasonable for ALL OF US to help at least with purchasing the files (and getting a discount toward the boards etc.). I also made a donation (bottom of page)and encourage others to do the same. Would anyone on this blog do everything Fritz has done for free? By the way sign me up for a case Shawn.

  8. I will take a case also shawn

  9. Fritz: Great work! I would still like to pay for a fet board even though I can make my own pcb's at home.

Shawn: I'm interested in your chassis. Please email me when you are ready with pics and I will place an order with you. mikep_95133 at yahoo.com

If we really wanted to save some money, we should send the cash to one person and have them make a group order. Parts are cheaper that way.

  11. Don't give up - your work is quite commendable. If economic times turn for me I would be glad to donate to your project. I may never have need for a dischrage welder but I would sure like to see you succeed.I came across your project while doing some research, Facinating!

  12. Holy Smaokes! This is just the Welder I need !!!

I’m interested and ready to purchase what I need to get started, I prefer to buy as many as assembled products you have to complete this welder.

I would also like to have the welder - cut just like your original design. Super design and I am very impressed.

Now, where do I start. I would like to get started as soon as possible.

Buy the way I do have some experience with electronics.

Hi there. Is there any possibility of buying one of these at all? Can you quote me a price? Do you have a page where I can make donations? Thanks. TK, IRELAND.

  14. I don't have any control boards left. I'll wait until I have a couple of people interested before I buy more. Send me an email to sprbok@gmail.com if you are interested.

  15. I can't afford to build your design at this time; I am a professional engineer (BSEE 1978) with over 45 years experience in electronics at many levels, and my opinion of your welder is that it is a well designed, elegant implementation of a dual pulse spot welder, equal or superior to any of the models of similar or perhaps greater capacity on the market, that I know of. I'd like to build it, but, I am disabled due to health problems and cannot spend the money on it. All I need to do is to weld relatively light weight zinc strips to nicad batteries to make battery packs for calculators and other low power devices, so I should be able to do OK with a simple design using the 3.0 farad audio cap I have, a high power SCR (or several in parallel to get a 1500-2000 amp surge rating) on the low side of the cap output, a bench power supply to charge the cap, and so forth. I'll have to twiddle with the voltage and other factors until I find parameters which will give me the results I need, but, I have seen some examples of this kind of spot welder for battery tabs on the internet, and I should be OK.

I will refer anyone who asks me about a better welder to your design; it is as good as or better than the Sunstone and other products I have seen, at one tenth the cost. By the time you've built it and made it work, you probably know enough to be able to improve it when needed etc.

I hope you don't give up on the project, as it helps many people. If I use anything I learn from your work, I will scrape together a small donation and send it to you by the means you've provided.

Good luck with the next version! I am really impressed by your design work, and your workmanship in making the probes, tweezers, etc. You are obviously skilled and professional in your work.

    best regards,
    Larry Holmes
